Barge Testing Computers w/ HBX-1 Explosives

MIL-STD Testing Military Computing

In order to inspect the reliability of our rugged rackmount servers out at sea, we put our systems under rigorous testing that meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810 requirements. We simulate the extreme conditions that our rackmount servers would see out in the field and put it to the test out by performing a MIL-S-901D Grade A Hi-Impact Shock Barge Test.

The test includes four shots, 24 feet deep and spaced 20-40 feet from the barge. This impact generates up to 40Gs of shock. With the servers properly mounted we prepared to begin testing. For the explosions, 60 pounds of HBX-1 is placed 24 feet under the floating barge. During the test, four explosive shots are detonated at various distances and sides of the barge. The Barge Test or Heavyweight Test requires the item under test to be mounted on a floating barge.
