SAN DIEGO (Aug. 25, 2025) — Core Systems has provided ATMOS rugged compute units to the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic. The units were procured by the Special Operations ISR Solutions Integrated Product Team for use in the Program Joint Threat Warning System–Air.

The ATMOS systems are undergoing evaluation as a potential next-generation primary rugged compute node. Testing will determine their ability to pair with software-defined radios to deliver dependable performance in maritime and airborne environments, where vibration, salt fog and temperature extremes can degrade traditional computing equipment.

The ATMOS platform is designed with a sealed chassis for corrosion resistance, extended thermal management for operation in high-heat conditions and reinforced construction to withstand repeated shock and vibration. Its modular architecture allows for rapid integration with evolving sensor payloads and communications systems, making it suitable for both manned and unmanned platforms.

“The ATMOS server was built for missions where failure is not an option,” said Chris Schaffner, president at Core Systems. “With high-performance processing, onboard battery backup and ruggedized design, it provides the resilience needed for naval and expeditionary operations in the harshest conditions.”
